Round V of the First Monday Championship, at the small but challenging Oulton Park, once again providing close and exciting racing. A full venue included a mix of hardened veterans and new faces to the First Monday format, all eager to get to grips with the Formula Ford around Oulton Park's smallest but trickiest layout. Free Practice provided some very close times, with the outright lap record being broken within the first half hour. But practice does not win races, and all drivers were under pressure to perform going into the famous Super Lap Qualifying. For the first time in TRC history, all drivers Qualified without a single spin or incident, with Class C winner Alisdair Irvine putting in a solid lap to secure 3rd place on the grid! With Qualifying over, it was time for the racing to begin! 

With such a tight circuit, every race provided exciting close racing, with heroic battles going on at the front, middle and back of every pack. A battle worthy of mention included Jamie Bishop, Jamie Warsgrove (Both new to First Monday) and Adam Tuffs. From the word go, both Jamies were dicing for the lead, never more than a second apart, a scrap made all the more exciting with the arrival of Adam Tuffs with just 2 laps to go. All three drivers were nose to tail going into the final corner, with Adam 3rd, Jamie Bishop 2nd and Jamie Warsgrove 1st. Disaster then struck as they came across a back marker over the blind crest! Chaos ensued as Jamie Warsgrove struck the back marker with no where to go and allowed Jamie Bishop and Adam Tuffs to clinch 1st and 2nd! Jamie Warsgrove limped over the line to finish an unlucky 3rd, but performed solidly throughout the event, going on to receive a well deserved third in the overall standings at the end of the night.

All in all it was a very entertaining evening of racing, and Oulton Park shall go down as a Fan Favourite.

We will look forward to the same again in Round VI, at Spain's famous Circuit de Catalunya.

The first round of the new TMC has been completed! 

Racing through the evening from 7pm until 10pm - some quick times started to appear as people got to grips with the shear power.  Later on in the evening fastest lap's started becoming more common and the quickest ever lap happened in the last race.

Every school holiday, The Race Centre holds the very popular School Holiday Special. The event is for drivers under the age of 18 to enjoy 3 x 20 minute sessions for half price at The Race Centre, so that is just £12!

These events take place every weekday throughout the holidays starting at 10.00am.

Driving on the circuit of the Month you will start by driving the Formula Ford Race car to learn the circuit and controls, before progressing up to the awsome F1 car. You will be able to view all of your laptimes on the website with your fastest time going onto the leader board, so that you can see just how fast you are against your friends.

Mum and Dad are welcome to join in as well (at the normal price) but please make sure you book early for these events as they do get booked up quickly.

Tri Month Championship

This new monthly Championship will take place over 3 rounds. The first round of the Spring Tri Championship will be held in April 2012.

The cars and circuits will be different to both the regular track of the month and therefore The First Monday Championship. Each Championship will have a feature car for all three rounds, but each round will have a different circuit.

The 2012 Spring Tri Championship will be featuring the awesome Ford RS200 rally car - with great circuits to suit.

As we have announced the first two months circuits - Hot Lapping is encouraged and also falls under the same category as your membership benefits (£5 per hour of track time). All laps will appear on a leader board similar to our monthly hot lapping boards. The event format and schedule will be the same as The First Monday Championship, but limited to only 20 drivers. The Third month's circuit will be a surprise, but still based around the feature car.

Congratulations to all drivers.

Joe was invited by GPR for a two hour session on their simulator and the opportunity of working with Matt Kelly, who instructs and works with a number of recognised new racing talents. GPR have built their professional race car simulator with Cranfield University, who themselves have worked with a number of F1 teams in race car simulation technology. The GPR simulator benefits from Cranfeilds unique GSeat technology, giving the effect of braking and cornering G-Forces, all in front of a wrap around projected image, powered by three projectors. The simulator is proving to be an extremely useful tool for working with race drivers and their engineers from a wide selection of professional race teams

Joe started by driving a Formula Renault race car around the Silverstone National circuit to acclimatise himself to the simulator. After a few laps, Joe had worked himself down to some very respectable lap times. Matt was analysing Joe's progress and driving style, and started to work with him on specific aspects of his driving, namely throttle application.  

Commenting on Joe and his driving Matt said "Joe was exceptional whilst driving the simulator, he had a natural feel for the car and settled in very quickly, the lap times he achieved were close to the times set by a current mid grid BARC Renault driver who also attended during the day. The step up into faster category cars such as the GP2 formula car didn't faze him at all, and he showed a very strong skill set, it would be good to see him progress, and he is welcome back anytime"

 Joe was then put into a GP2 race car and again put in some very competitive lap times before progressing onto the main Silverstone Arena GP Circuit. The day would only be complete by driving the F1 car, which again he drove very well, putting in a respectable lap time. The size and feedback from the simulator was an eye opener for Joe, who did a great job and was a super ambassador for The Race Centre.

On driving the simulator and of his experience with GPR Joe said  "GPR's F1-style simulator was great fun to drive and was something completely different to what I'm used to. The feedback was great to experience and helped me improve my driving, along with tips and guidance from Matt. Thanks to him for helping me get the most out of my driving and also thanks to David and The Race Centre for giving me this great opportunity".

We are pleased to announce the following refinement to the TRC monthly hot-lap competition rules.

 - TRC Staff are no longer eligible to win cash prizes. Any cash wins will defer to the next highest position

A staff member may still come top in their class, and their time will show at the top of the table, but any associated cash prize will be awarded to the next highest position held by a non staff participant.

For clarity, TRC Staff remain eligible to pay for their entry to competitions. They remain subject to the same rules as everyone else. They may even earn promotions and win non cash prizes. The new ruling applies only to the receipt of cash prizes.

Aside from simply enjoying driving the simulator, Joe will also be working with his own race engineer during his sessions. He will have the opportunity of changing car set ups and understanding the differences they make. Having an engineer talking to him throughout the driving sessions, will be another new aspect to race driving not yet experienced by Joe. We are very confident that Joe will do well at GPR and that he will also be a great ambassador for us all who have competed with him throughout the 2011 Championship.

Joe will be making his trip to Silverstone very soon and we look forward to hearing all about it when he returns.

Congratulations to all who saw it through the night to complete the full 24 hours of racing! Once again we have been blown away by the huge efforts made by so many to get behind the spirit of the annual BBC Children in Need event. Whilst winning trophies is nice, talking to the teams in the closing hours of the event was a great reminder why it's now become an annual event to come together to have a bit of fun whilst doing our bit to help others.

Doing it all again next year feels like a daunting task right now. Luckily by the time we get to next year we will all have forgotten that and history suggests that we will be up for it once again.

This year's car and circuit were announced on Tuesday night at the event's first practice.

For the first time in running the 24hr fund raiser, we will be using a GT car from the world of sportscar racing instead of a Le Man prototype. Synonymous with the world's greatest endurance races, this year's car is the legendary Porsche 911. The Porsche 911 GT3 is really great to drive. It is both quick and nimble and will promote even closer racing for this year's event. We are even more excited having seen how well matched the teams are, from the lap times at first 1st Practice.

The circuit is another legend in itself, Monza. Home to the Italian Grand Prix, Monza has held endurance races for many decades, however the actual layout may be quite different to those who follow F1. The layout we are using is called the Florio Circuit, as raced between 1935 - 1937. The Florio doesn't use the first chicane as raced by modern F1, so after being flat out down the start / finish straight the cars will be approaching the first corner at around 180 mph. 

However, the main difference being that following the Ascari Chicane the circuit takes a 90 degree left half way down the back straight. This leads to the outside of the current Grand Prix circuit and down to the old banked section. The banking takes you around the outside of the Parabolica corner and leads back onto the main start / finish straight. Classic Monza racing to be had. There is a definite advantage in getting close to the car in front, as you can pick up a tow which will lead to high speed slip-streaming, which will be keeping all of the drivers on their toes throughout the BBC Children In Need 24hr 2011 event.

We have had great feedback from the team's and driver's last night, so we are confident that we have found another great car and track combo for our biggest event of the year.

It's been a great season of Formula Ford racing at The Race Centre in 2011. We have one final non-championship night on Monday 5th December 2011, but with the 11 championship rounds complete, the point scoring is all done.

We can now reveal that the top 10 out of 63 drivers were as follows

Joe's Prize is a VIP visit to Grand Prix Racewear's F1 Simulator. This is a specialist set-up at the British Silverstone circuit used with an emphasis on professional driver training.

Every school holiday The Race Centre holds the very popular School Holiday Special. The event is for drivers under the age of 18 to enjoy 3 x 20 minute sessions for half price at The Race Centre, so that is just £12!

These events take place every weekday throughout the holidays starting at 10.00am.

Driving on the circuit of the Month you will start by driving the Formula Ford Race car to learn the circuit and controls, before progressing up to the awsome F1 car. You will be able to view all of your laptimes on the website with your fastest time going onto the leader board, so that you can see just how fast you are against your friends.

Mum and Dad are welcome to join in as well (at the normal price) but please make sure you book early for these events as they do get booked up quickly.

Helping Raise Money for the Charity

This is our 5^th annual BBC Children In Need 24hr race event, and so far together we have raised in excess of £30k. Our main objective is to raise money for the charity and this year, there will be a 'competitive benefit' for those teams raising more than £500 for the charity.

Each team raising in excess of £500 for BBC Children in Need on their "just giving" page by 9.00am 18^th November 2011, will be given a higher fuel load. This will allow them to make fewer stops during the race, and will therefore give them an advantage! As in previous years, there will be a Charity Auction being held during the race as well as the BBQ throughout the event, with all profits going to the charity.

Team Practice Sessions - £10 per hour

There will be two optional Open Practice evenings available to all teams. You will need to book for these.

Quick and easy access to a range of lap record views. The default is to show all entries for the latest hot lap competition. If you wish you can then select to view older competitions or view the all time lap records for any specified circuit.

Quick and easy access to focus more on just your lap data. See all your laps and sector times. Simply enter your name and identify your driver profile. Your browser will then remember your selection for future usage (unless you choose to reselect). Alternatively you can get to the same place by finding your name anywhere on the "Latest Lap Records" page.

Note: This data logging, as of today, is for any car, driven at any time, by any driver on any track at any of our venues!
